ANSWER: There is an interesting parallel They can recover a specific virus from the KHV fish that’s not in the Sleeping Sickness ones. And the morbidities / mortalities on KHV are catastrophic in short order, compared to the Sleeping Sickness. We’re lucky in poikilotherms that we can set the “body temperature” at anything we want – whereas a cat or dog or person with a virus is pretty much stuck in the viruses’ favorite range (once adapted to and infectious for) mammalian cells at 98.6-101.6 So we can take an infectious, lipophilic / heat labile virus (simply melts) to temperatures that destroy the capsule/capsid. (By no means are all viruses heat labile) I have to admit I’m not very familiar with Koi / Carp Sleeping Sickness because of two things 1) I always wrote it off as fulminating stress-response (which may be directly related to vulnerability to a ubiquitous CGNV virus -AND- 2) It has been a nonsequiter in practice because it really does tend to clear as water temperature, quality and pathogens are resolved.
